6-4-23 Morning with dad

Met up with my dad for a morning of fishing for the first time since last season. He recently purchased a euro rod and reel so we set him up and tested it out. He got the Grey’s Fin combo in a 10’ 3 weight. It came with a euro line and I set him up with a 30’ section of 2x sighter off the euro line and about 6’ of 5x tippet material. I spent most of the morning teaching him how to cast more efficiently since this is a bit different than casting a traditional fly line. He ended up getting the hang of it and was managing to get some good drifts. Fortunately he was rewarded with a nice brown trout.

Once the casting came together, we started working the transition from the cast to the drift so that he was in contact a little earlier. We continued hiking along the stream and he was able to pick up a few more fish and was getting the hang of things. At that point I cut him loose and we both continued to fish the rest of the morning. Most of the first were caught on bwo and sulphur emerger patterns tied on a tag. We switched between small pheasant tails, frenchies, and perdigons on the point.

Hopefully we get some rain soon, flows were low but fortunately water temps were in the upper 50s. A lot of the fish were concentrated in the deeper buckets with a little faster current speed.
